What is the difference between a hydraulic circuit and an electrical circuit? ›

In a hydraulic transmission line, the energy flows as mechanical waves through the water, but in an electric transmission line the energy flows as fields in the space surrounding the wires, and does not flow inside the metal.

A hydraulic system is a closed system that converts pressurized fluid to mechanical energy. Hydraulic fluid is moved by pumps through control valves and on to mechanical actuators like hydraulic cylinders or motors, which then use the pressure to move implements such as tractor buckets, excavators, and lift cranes.

Hydraulic power is generated through a combination of oil flow and pressure. Oil flow and pressure is created from a hydraulic pump and transmitted through hoses or tubes, via control valves, to the hydraulic motor or cylinder that will do the work.

Electro-mechanical solutions only use power when moving the load. In comparison hydraulic systems generally have to maintain pressure levels to either maintain position when holding a load or to ensure that the system can respond when required.
