What are the best rolls for pull apart sliders?

There’s so many different options out there. You can find small slider rolls and then put them side by side, touching on a baking sheet. As you lay the ingredients on the rolls, the cheese will melt between them. And when you pull them apart, you can get the nice cheese pull. But our favorite is using the Kings Hawaiian sliders. They’re the perfect size and the buns are soft, tender and slightly sweet.

Why are these sliders so quick and easy to assemble? We start with shredded roasted chicken because of the great flavor that the chicken has already been cooked. When you’re in a bind, you can easily buy a pre-cooked roast chicken at your local market. But you don’t have to use roast chicken. You can easily grill or bbq some chicken if you want the extra flavor or to customize your chicken seasonings. There’s many different ways to cook the chicken choose your favorite technique! And of course, always choose great tasting bbq sauce. There’s so many awesome bbq sauces out there to choose from. Make sure to choose a nice melty style cheese to get the “cheese pull”. Some cheese taste great, like aged cheddars, but they don’t melt to give you the “pull apart cheese”. So you can use your favorite flavorful cheese, but add these good melting cheese options too. That way, you get the full cheesy-pull-apart effect.

  • American Cheese
  • Mozzarella
  • Spicy jack
  • Swiss or Emmentaler
  • Colby Jack
  • Monterey Jack
  • Provolone

Tips for Making Pull Apart BBQ Chicken Sliders

  • Using a good melting cheese makes all the difference and allows these sliders to be truly pull apart with the amazing cheese pull.
  • Add some of your favorite seasonings or drizzle extra bbq sauce on the sliders before topping.
  • If you like other types of meat, you don’t have to use chicken. For example, you can do a pulled pork version with our easy Asian pulled pork recipe here.
  • Use sliced turkey or ham for a deli meat pull apart.
  • Vegetarian versions are just to use cheese and onions. Don’t use meat if you don’t want. Chop some veggies and sautee them for the filling like bell peppers, broccoli, cauliflower or cabbage. A veggie pull apart is delicious.
  • Other ingredients you can add in the sliders are pickles, sliced jalapenos or hot sauce if you like spicy foods.
