Description

Welcome to our back yard! The area is fully fenced in with a 4 ft high privacy fence. There are areas where there are about 5 inches from the bottom of the fence to the ground, so it may not be an ideal space for small escape artists. We have lounge chairs and a table and chairs available for any human or dog to lounge on. You can enter through the gate on the right side of the garage. We have an Australian shepherd who will not be joining you, but your fellow pup will definitely notice his sent around the yard! Please message me with any questions!

FAQs

Is a fenced-in yard good for dogs? ›

Having a fenced in yard is the best way to let your dog enjoy the outdoors. With a fenced in yard, your pup can play to their heart's content while setting boundaries to make sure they are safe.

How big should a fenced in yard be for a dog? ›

For small breeds, a four-foot fence may be sufficient. However, larger dogs can easily jump a four-foot fence, so a standard six-foot fence may be the answer. If you have a particularly large breed or your dog is a standout jumper, you could opt for an eight-foot fence but check local regulations first.

How do you train a dog to stay in a fenced yard? ›

Some suggestions: “Edge,” “Fence,” “Wall,” “Brink” – anything you want, it doesn't have to literally mean “boundary.” Walk with your dog near the barrier. Anytime she approaches the rope use your cheerful “Fence!” cue and feed her a tasty treat. Soon you'll see her perk up and look at you when you say “Fence!”

Should I get a fence for my dog? ›

In summary, you don't need to get a physical fence if you don't want one, but you will need to train your dog. If you're not ready, willing, and able to train your dog and stick with the training over the long haul, then you're better off getting a physical fence.

Can I leave my dog in a fenced yard all day? ›

The simple answer is no; you shouldn't leave your dog outside unattended.

Does a fenced in yard add value? ›

A fence can increase value to your home by adding curb appeal if it enhances the visual appeal or some other aspect of your home, such as adding privacy. Significantly improving security may also add more value where break-ins are common.

How do you keep a dog from escaping a fenced yard? ›

Extend your fence.

You don't necessarily have to make it higher, but adding a section to the top that tilts inward will deter your dog. A lean-in or L-footer will do the trick. You make a lean-in by taking some farm wire and attaching it to the top of your fence so that it creates a sort of awning on the inside.

Is a 4 or 5 foot fence better for dogs? ›

Fence Height

Medium to large-sized breeds like boxers, golden-retrievers, Huskies, and labs will see a four-foot fence as a fun obstacle to jump over. In this case, what's fun for them isn't fun for you! We always recommend at least a six foot high fence when fencing in a yard for a dog.

What to put at the bottom of a fence to keep dogs in? ›

Mud Board (Rot Board)

Mud boards are great for wooden fences. They are designed to protect the bottom of the fencing from rot, but they double as dog fence security. The mud board runs horizontally along the bottom of the fence pickets, and it can be added after the fence is installed.

What are examples of boundaries for dogs? ›

Examples include non-reactive behaviors towards other dogs and people, no counter surfing or stealing food, no jumping on guests or children, staying by your side during walks, & coming when their name is called. These can be achieved when we create simple yet consistent boundaries with our furry family members.

How do I stop my dog from running up and down the fence? ›

Try restricting your dog's access to the fence (particularly when you are not home). This can be done by erecting a temporary double fence, blocking your dog's access to the fence by keeping them in another part of the yard, or keeping your dog in a den or crate while you are out or can't supervise them.

What are the disadvantages of fences? ›

Cost: Adding a fence can be expensive, depending on the type of fence you choose and the size of your property. It's important to factor in the cost of materials and installation before you make your final decision! Maintenance: Fences require maintenance, including regular cleaning and staining or painting.

What are the negatives of an invisible fence? ›

Invisible fencing systems rely on an electric shock to a dog's neck that's supposed to be painful enough that the dog doesn't approach a defined boundary. There are many risks to using an invisible fence, including injury, behavior issues, and your dog escaping through the boundary.

How tall should a fence be to keep dogs in yard? ›

For most small and medium-sized dogs with average to low energy levels, a fence of at least five feet will keep them safely contained. You will want a fence at least six feet tall if you have a medium-sized dog with high energy levels or a larger dog.

How effective are in ground dog fences? ›

Many people think an invisible underground wireless electric fence is the best way to keep their dog in their yard. However, they are simply not as effective as you might think. Statistics suggest that invisible wireless electric fences are only about 70% effective.

Are dogs happier with a yard? ›

DOGS ARE ALSO DEN ANIMALS.

Your dog has a wonderful ability to learn and therefore to be housetrained. A dog who resides more in your house than in the yard is a much happier animal, because of the security of a den and your companionship.

Should dogs meet through a fence? ›

If the dogs seem relaxed, and if a chain-link fence is available, allow them to meet through the fence. This gives them a chance to see each other up close and sniff each other more while maintaining a safe barrier between them. It's also a great solution if one or both dogs tend to be leash-aggressive.

Can dogs break through fences? ›

Some dogs jump fences, but most actually climb them, using some part of the fence to push off from. A dog may also dig under the fence, chew through the fence, learn to open a gate or use any combination of these methods to get out of the yard. Knowing how your dog gets out will help you to modify your yard.
